Emission Funding Representative
Department: Sales and Marketing (California location preferred)
Reports to (Title): General Manager, Emissions
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- Take the lead in finding and exploiting all funding opportunities and lobbying government for increased/new levels of funding
- Maximize funding from US government sources for Railpower and its clients by quantifying and communicating environmental benefits of Railpower products
- Assist General Manager, Emissions in improving the value story to clients by calculating and quantifying the effect of grants, subsidies and carbon credits
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Railpower clients to help complete government funding applications and submit by due date
- Identify and promote potential incentive programs, regulatory initiatives, and other air quality and transport-related activities that will expand potential markets for Railpower products
- Support Railpower account executives in presenting and explaining these programs to potential clients
- Gather appropriate emissions data to determine hybrid locomotive fuel usage and emissions reductions compared with conventional locomotives for lobbying efforts and funding applications; fully understand and update the emissions spreadsheets to enable accurate fuel comparisons
- Work with government funding officials to ensure applications provide required technical information and methodologies to demonstrate superior fuel usage and emissions reductions
- Explore all funding opportunities from government agencies and the emerging carbon credit trading market and recommend course of action for Railpower and its clients
- Lobby elected and non-elected government officials to increase profile of Railpower product and the amount of funding that is allocated to railways for emissions reducing technologies and, where appropriate, help to prepare and submit testimony or comments in related hearings and regulatory proceedings
- Coordinate with the area railroads and railroad associations to ensure that a consistent lobbying message is brought to Municipal Planning Organizations, local government, state government, and federal government
DUTIES:
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of funding opportunities and assist clients in preparing funding applications and meeting submission deadlines
- Research and explore funding opportunities in conjunction with Railpower clients
- Lobby local, state, and federal government officials, as well as Municipal Planning Organizations, through phone calls, letters, emails and meetings, to raise awareness of benefits of product and to make the case for greater government incentives that are favorable to Railpower's products
- Educate the regulatory and general community regarding the benefits of Railpower locomotives through presentations at public hearings and conferences
- Prepare presentation materials that the account executives can use to provide client with solutions
- Develop a work plan to detail tasks and time needed to accomplish goals
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS (minimum qualifications required; experience (years); list specific skill set needed)
- Strong networking ability; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- BS degree in business, political science, related field, or equivalent work experience required
- Strong working knowledge of air pollution/emissions related to environmental concerns and benefits of emerging emissions reducing technologies
- 2-3 years railway experience desired but not mandatory (operational/yard knowledge)
- Team player but able to work with minimal supervision
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT (Unusual position demands i.e. weather; field)
- Work from home office; some traveling is required
