Designer/Drafter

Reports to (Title): Designing/Drafting Supervisor
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- Create models, complicated assemblies and sub-assemblies; provide detailed documentation and configuration control disciplines
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create models, complicated assemblies and sub-assemblies
- Creating detailed documentation and configuration control disciplines
- Undertake analytical analysis of locomotive end to end balance, weight roll-ups, location of apparatus and clearance diagrams
- Interact with engineering department, marketing personnel and sub-contractors in a professional manner to share knowledge, product information and best practices
- Ability to work in a 3D and 2D environment with solid models and database management
- Utilize and manipulate existing customer 3-D solid models to support both engineering and manufacturing processes
- Incorporate engineering design changes into the manufacturing process; manage design changes that affect multiple product lines in various stages of production
- Arrange design and layout of sheet metal parts and fabrications
- Create and manage all new product information, including models, drawings, bills of material, and all other pertinent engineering data
- Provide design information and feedback to suppliers
DUTIES:
- Master and utilize appropriate engineering automation and productivity tools
- Provide feedback on ways to improve product performance and functionality
- Create and identify designs by coding them according to laid down Railpower design method
- Provide information and assistance to product queries from filed personnel
- Ensure that all changes to approved designs are properly done and documented
- Apply laid down AAR/FRA practices for producing a safe product ensuring that all designs conform to industry and engineering standards
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS (minimum qualifications required; experience (years); list specific skill set needed)
- AS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (BS Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience preferred)
- 5+ years mechanical design/drafting experience in rail or equivalent heavy industry
- Thorough and practical working knowledge of 3D drawing packages such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, UG and others
- Quality training preferred (Greenbelt advantageous)
- Accurate, attentive to detail, ability to work with minimum supervision to meet tight time deadlines
